The story

In 2001 Matthew Scholz, University of Washington computer science student, became fascinated in locating vehicles by their radio transmissions (cell phones, etc), specifically the technology that locates wireless signals in urban environments without line of sight. This led to building a technical research team comprised of professors and students from the physics and engineering departments to research the technology.

Inspired by their research Matthew along with fellow students Chris Whitten and Enrique Alvarado asked themselves, “How can we use our technology premise to track vehicle movements in a cost-effective way that customers would value?” The answer was, of course, helping businesses and agencies get more value from their fleets, improve operational efficiencies and increase profits. The more they studied this new application, the more excited they became and co-founded Point B Telematics, Inc.

With spiking fuel costs slamming fleet managers’ budgets, WIMFleet’s tracking solution, incorporating advanced scheduling, routing and management reporting became all the more vital. Real customers helped Point B Telematics uncover more ways to make WIMFleet an indispensable business tool for fleet managers, dispatchers and operations managers. After three years of technology development, long, long nights and plenty of sweat Point B Telematics was on its way to tracking vehicles in over 40 cities across the Unites States.
